Our founders

Sandy and David bonded over a shared passion for food and the idea for a new category of fresh dumplings in the UK, with a wider range of textures and flavours available to cook with ease at home. Thus Love Sum was born, inspired by the dumpling and its historic evolution along the Silk Roads; the original fusion food that is interpreted and re-interpreted by every culture it reaches.

Sandy is a chef and recipe developer, who cooked her way to the MasterChef finals in 2020. Born in the former Portuguese colony of Macau, where she lived until age 13, Sandy grew up surrounded by a unique fusion of cultures. 

Having spent half her life in Asia and half in the UK, she feels comfortable embracing both Eastern and Western ideas and techniques when working in the kitchen, producing innovative culinary concepts that are still grounded in tradition.

David Solomon

David first travelled to India, Nepal, China, and Southeast Asia in 1991, and over the next three decades, his work and love for the region have taken him back over 40 times. With family spread over the world, making Eurasian dumplings according to recipes passed down through 4 generations has become a regular family activity and a way of connecting – hence the desire to make fresh, homemade dumplings more accessible in the UK.

Made in London

Our recipes were first developed by our founder Sandy in her home kitchen. As the business grew and for us to maintain good quality, we moved into the current kitchen in Park Royal, West London back in 2021. All our dumplings are now produced by a team of dumpling experts who are chosen for their experience in food production and passion in producing good food.

Journey of how to cook dumplings

Sandy’s experience of cooking dumplings has led to the way we cook Love Sum e.g. steam & pan-fry. Every dumpling is unique. Some are more suited to pan-frying with a crispy finish, while others are just as delicious when steamed on their own. This is also why we love dumplings so much, the cooking method depends on your mood and what you are craving. Along with a dipping sauce of your choice, you can transform them into dishes that perfectly suit any occasion

Our favourite Autumn salad 🍁🍂🥟

Chopped with all the goodness from autumn harvest + a twist with Love Sum’s Hoisin Duck Dumplings🥢

Why not give it a try? Recipe below!

Ingredients -
1/2 butternut squash, peeled and cubed
1 block of halloumi, cubed
250g queen chickpeas
Love Sum hoisin duck dumplings
100g red cabbage, sliced
1 medium carrot, grated
50g pecans, roughly chopped
50g cranberries
30g pumpkin seeds
Chopped herbs for garnish

Dressing
2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp hot honey (or regular honey)

Preheat the oven to 200C and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper
Sprinkle the butternut squash and chickpeas with seasoning and a little olive oil, and roast for 20 minutes
Remove the tray from the oven and turn the oven down to 180C
Toss the halloumi through the squash and chickpeas, and top with the dumplings. Brush the dumplings with a little oil and return the tray to the oven for 15 minutes
Prep the rest of the ingredients ready to assemble the salad
Once the baking tray components are golden and crisp, remove and leave to cool before transferring to a bowl with the other ingredients
If you wish, stir some salad leaves through the mix before serving (spinach, rocket, watercress). Sprinkle with chopped fresh herbs
